Mission and objectives
Photo, sound, film and video recordings describe the recent history of Switzerland and are witnesses to the culture and linguistic variety of our country. The audiovisual media are themselves participants of history, whose progress they affect to an increasing degree. Many audiovisual recordings have, however, already faded, grown silent or become lost.
MISSION
As an association, Memoriav’s objective is to preserve and index Switzerland’s audiovisual cultural heritage and in doing so, it contributes to the enlargement of the country’s collective memory. Memoriav has formed and fosters a network of institutions and individuals who preserve, produce or benefit from Switzerland’s audiovisual heritage, with the goal of exchanging expertise and information and better utilising existing resources. Memoriav initiates projects that preserve, describe/index and improve the accessibility of Switzerland’s audiovisual heritage. Memoriav supports and manages such projects, while taking professional standards and ethics into consideration.
Objectives
- To initiate, support and manage projects that preserve, describe/index and improve the accessibility of Switzerland’s audiovisual heritage in the fields of photography, sound, film and video;
- To study the volume and condition of our audiovisual heritage;
- To expand, consolidate and foster a network of institutions and individuals active or interested in our audiovisual heritage;
- To sensitise the population towards the cultural, historical, political and material value of our audiovisual heritage and its recognition as a part of our historical heritage.
